The men’s ODI World Cup 2023 will start on October 5 in Ahmedabad, with games taking place at 10 different locations, and conclude on November 19 with the championship match, which will also be played in Ahmedabad. On November 15 and 16, the semi-finals will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata.
Over the course of 46 days, the 45 league games and the three playoff games will be played in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune. If India advances to the semi-finals, the ICC has stated that game would take place in Mumbai, unless Pakistan is their opponent in which case game will take place in Kolkata.
Just 100 days before the tournament’s start, the ICC and BCCI finally unveiled the much-anticipated and delayed World Cup schedule at a ceremony in Mumbai. In contrast, the schedules for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales were made public more than a year in advance.
The league round will include ten teams competing against one another once, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals. The format will remain the same as it was in 2019. India earned the right to host the competition, while South Africa, Afghanistan, Australia, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Pakistan qualified by placing in the top eight of the 2020–2023 World Cup Super League. The two remaining teams will be revealed at the World Cup qualifiers being played in Zimbabwe right now between Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Ireland, Nepal, the Netherlands, Oman, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe.
ODI World Cup 2023: India to play at nine of the ten venues in league stage, Pakistan in five
The 2023 World Cup kicks off on October 8 in Chennai with a rematch between the 2019 champions, New Zealand taking on England, while the hosts India begin play against Australia.
India’s next matches are against Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi, Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad, Bangladesh on October 19 in Pune, New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamsala, England on October 29 in Lucknow, a qualifier on November 2 in Mumbai, South Africa on November 5 in Kolkata, and a final qualifier on November 11 in Bengaluru, which is the penultimate day of the league stage. During the league phase, India travelled most of the ten teams, playing in nine of the ten locations.
Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
Pakistan plays just in five cities: Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata, in contrast to most other teams, which split their nine league games across most of the ten locations (Australia, for instance, is playing at eight). On November 12, England will play Pakistan in Kolkata, while Australia will play Bangladesh in Pune, capping out the league phase.
New Zealand ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
After playing England in the first game of the tournament, New Zealand plays three matches in southern India against qualifiers on October 9, Bangladesh on October 14, and Afghanistan on October 18 before heading up to the far north to play two matches against India and Australia in Dharamsala. Their final three league games are against South Africa on November 1 in Pune, Pakistan on November 4 in Bengaluru, and the other qualifier on November 9 in Bengaluru.
South Africa ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
South Africa’s campaign gets underway in the north of India on October 8 when they play a qualifier in Delhi. They then play Australia in Lucknow on October 13 and the other qualifier in Dharamsala on October 17 before finishing up in the south. They then go to Mumbai in the west to play England and Bangladesh on October 21 and 24, respectively, before making their way south to play Pakistan in Chennai on October 27. Their final three league matches are against New Zealand on November 1 in Pune, India; India on November 5 in Kolkata, India; and Afghanistan on November 10 in Ahmedabad, India.
Bangladesh ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign begins in Dharamsala with two matches against Afghanistan and England on October 7 and 10, respectively. Then, on October 14, they take on New Zealand in Bangalore, India on October 19, South Africa in Mumbai, and South Africa on October 24. On October 28, they travel to Kolkata to take on a qualifier, and on October 31, they take on Pakistan. On November 6 in Delhi, they will play the other qualifier, and on November 12 in Pune, they will play Australia.
Afghanistan ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
Afghanistan begins their third consecutive World Cup on October 7 against Bangladesh in Dharamsala, plays India and England in Delhi on October 11 and 14, travels to the south to play New Zealand and Pakistan in Chennai on October 18 and 23, and then departs for Pune on October 30 to play a qualifier. They play the other qualifier in Lucknow on November 3, Australia in Mumbai on November 7, and South Africa in Ahmedabad on November 10 in their final three league games.
Between September 29 and October 3, the teams will play warm-up games in Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati before the competition starts.
