Two major fires occur in New York City, and three children are rescued

On Sunday, two fires broke out in populated districts of New York City. According to the New York Post, one of the fires occurred in a residential apartment complex in Brooklyn. The other event occurred about five miles away and had a significant impact on a cluster of nine establishments on Lee Avenue in Williamsburg.

Three children, ages four, five, and eight, were rescued from the 11th floor of an apartment building on Brownsville’s Livonia Avenue near Sackman Street. The children were taken to the hospital and are said to be in stable but serious condition.

Ten firefighters were hospitalised as a result of the fire on Lee Avenue. According to reports, the firefighters are not in any risk of losing their lives. According to reports, the causes of the fires are unknown and are being investigated.

Videos of the fires are making the rounds on social media, showing firefighters battling the inferno while plumes of smoke rise into the sky.

New York’s Fire Commissioner Comment

Laura Kavanagh, the City of New York’s Fire Commissioner, took to “X” (previously Twitter) to praise the crew for their efforts in rescuing the children and extinguishing both flames.

“I’d want to praise our Firefighters and EMS personnel. They come through every day, but today was very hectic. There were two major fires that may have been fatal. The first occurred at 383 Livonia, where FFs saved three children. “The other was a 5-alarm at 106 Lee Ave,” Kavanagh wrote.

The devastation caused by the fire on Lee Avenue was noted by New York City Councilmember Lincoln Restler. Restler remarked in a video clip on “X” (previously Twitter), “Tragic day in the heart of South Williamsburg.” A five-alarm fire razed several treasured local businesses on Lee Ave. We spoke with three of the business owners and the property owner, and we will do everything we can to help each firm and their employees get back on their feet.”

Meanwhile, the children’s father, 37-year-old Anthony Halliburton, was detained in the aftermath of the incident. He was charged with three charges of child abandonment and endangering the welfare of a kid.

“The circumstances surrounding why they [the children] were home alone are being investigated,” Kavanagh said.
