Zlatan Ibrahimovic retires from football after AC Milan’s win

AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced his retirement from football on Sunday, June 4, after the club’s final game of the season against Hellas Verona. Ibrahimovic was moved to tears as he said his final farewell to the club in front of the San Siro crowd.

Ibrahimovic added in an emotional address that the fans brought him delight the first time they landed in Milan, and love the second time. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you fans,” the striker continued, adding, “You welcomed me with open arms, and you made me feel at home.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic stressed, “I will be a Milan fan for the whole It’s time to say goodbye to fall, not you [fans]”.

Ibrahimovic’s remark on Sunday came after AC Milan announced this week that he would be leaving the club at the end of a season marred by injury. Although the 41-year-old insisted he would play the next season, he has already announced his retirement. Ibrahimovic, who formerly played for Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, made only four games for AC Milan this season. He last appeared in a match on March 18 against Udinese.

The Swedish player opted to call it quits after a trophy-laden career that included stops at Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United, and the LA Galaxy. In his 24 years of professional football, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also won multiple league titles in the Netherlands, Spain, France, and Italy.
